The Schatzbergbahnen in the Wildschönau, a paradise for skiers and snowboarders. Ludwig Schäffer, managing director of Schatzbergbahnen for 20 years, and his 120-strong team ensure perfect conditions on the numerous slopes and runs.
Perfect slopes need snow groomers. The expensive equipment must always be operational and ready for use. One of the places where the equipment is maintained is the snow groomer workshop, which was built in 2019 directly at the Schatzbergbahn mid-station. Nobody likes working in the cold, so the question arose in 2019? "How can we keep the snow groomer workshop at the best possible temperature to meet our requirements?"
Schäffer and his team thought about how they could heat the 2,861 m³ workshop according to their requirements. Underfloor heating was under discussion, but was found to be "too slow to regulate the temperature". As two heating units from the heating unit manufacturer Puls-air had already been purchased 15 years ago for other halls of the mountain railroads and these were found to "meet the requirements", Schäffer and his team decided to use Puls-air for the new hall as well.
For Mr. Schäffer and his team, it is important that the heat in the room can be adapted to different situations. "If repairs need to be carried out on the snow groomers, it is important that the units defrost quickly so that they can reach all areas. When no work is being carried out, the temperature should be able to be lowered flexibly," - says Schäffer.
Reliable and economical heating is particularly important at higher altitudes in order to be able to carry out maintenance work in all weather conditions. The snow groomers must always be ready for use in order to prepare the slopes. Of course, consumption is also an issue. An efficiency of 97 % and efficient heating through an air circulation effect in the workshop make Puls-air very economical - only 2,300 liters of heating oil are required annually!
Workshop employee Michael Fill describes how Puls-air is handled. "The heater is switched on in the morning at 7 a.m., but only 1 unit is on economy mode - the hall is heated slightly on economy mode. The 2nd appliance doesn't run at all in the fall and early winter - in extremely cold weather, the 2nd appliance is also switched on. This means we always have the optimum temperature in the hall. A great thing for us!"
