Diesel Nonn, the name has a good sound in North Hesse - for 90 years. Located in the so-called "Hessian Siberia", Diesel Nonn uses a suitable and efficient heating system in the truck workshop: the Puls-air heating system from Werner Pletzer.
To be honest, we were surprised ourselves at how much response we received to our turbo garage," Stefan Nonn says on the phone. Together with his brother Matthias, he made a dream come true in 2017 and turned his hobby of a "weekend man's garage" into a professional service, repair and tuning business for classic sports cars, especially air-cooled ones from Zuffenhausen, in Fritzlar in northern Hesse.
Anyone who knows northern Hesse and Fritzlar knows that it can get really cold here. The specialist workshop borders on a region that locals like to call "Hessian Siberia". Double-digit temperatures below zero are not uncommon in winter. The cold also took its toll on the Nonn brothers in their Dorfitter business, or more precisely on the employees.
"Our workshop hall is free-standing, 420 meters high on a mountain. We never really got it warm there in winter," says Stefan Nonn. In addition, the hall, with 1,000 square meters of floor space and an average height of 7.5 meters, is made entirely of concrete. "The ceiling radiators were running at maximum power in winter, but before the air reached the employees at their workstations, it had already cooled down again." So Stefan Nonn and his brother set out to find an alternative.
"Our requirement was a heating system that would bring the heat to the workplaces with pinpoint accuracy and create a pleasant working atmosphere for the employees," Stefan Nonn explains. The brothers found what they were looking for at Automechanika 2010 in Frankfurt. There they met Werner Pletzer, owner of the company Puls-air. "We had become aware of the mobile Puls-air heating systems through the trade press and had them explained to us in detail in Frankfurt," says Stefan Nonn. The presentation was so convincing that the two, themselves thoroughbred technicians, spontaneously decided to buy four Puls-air units with 23.5 kW and an air output of 2,500 cubic meters.
After the first use in the workshop on the mountain, the Nonn brothers were thrilled.
The devices in the company Dorfitter in use and are like the employees full of praise. "The units are positioned at our plant where the warm air is needed at the workstations. Two are in the center of the workshop, one in the direct receiving area and one in the transmission repair area," says Stefan Nonn. Freezing employees have since become a thing of the past. The units are highly efficient, deliver the heat quickly and quietly to where it is needed, and have been operating completely trouble-free since they were commissioned.
The Nonn truck repair shop has been using the Puls-air heating systems as its main heaters since 2010. "We have completely discontinued the ceiling radiators. What's really practical about the Puls-air is the extremely efficient combustion. This allows us to simply direct the few exhaust gases outdoors via an exhaust pipe instead of having to expensively discharge them via the chimney over the roof." For Stefan Nonn, the efficient combustion of the systems is also evident in another respect.
As the person responsible for quality management and quality assurance at the plant, he keeps precise records of the company's energy consumption. "Since 2010, depending on the prevailing weather, we've saved between 30 and 40 percent in heating costs at our plant, and with much better heat generation and distribution than before." And maintenance? Stefan Nonn laughs. "We are clean-burning experts ourselves. Without a doubt, Mr. Pletzer had a great idea that works super. The pulse-air systems are very simple, ingeniously designed. The little bit of maintenance that the systems need, we do ourselves right from the start," says Stefan Nonn.
Our employees are very satisfied with the heating, the workplaces are pleasantly warm even on extremely cold days. In addition, the heat is where work is done and not, as with ceiling fans, at the top of the ceiling. The heating oil consumption of Puls-air is extremely low and we save ourselves 50% of the previous heating costs, Peuker enthuses. What's also amazing about the heaters is their heating capacity. "It's -15 °C outside, I turn on the Puls-air and in 5 minutes the entire hall is warm!" I'm so happy with the heater that I switched my entire operation to Puls-air, so I bought a second one in 2016 and three more Puls-air heaters for the commercial vehicle hall in 2018.
