The Schatzbergbahnen in the Wildschönau, a paradise for skiers and snowboarders. Ludwig Schäffer, managing director of the Schatzbergbahnen for 20 years, and his 120-strong team ensure perfect conditions on the numerous slopes and runs.
Perfect slopes require slope grooming equipment. The expensive equipment must always be ready for use and operation. The maintenance of the equipment is done, among other things, in the snow groomer workshop built in 2019, directly at the mid-station of the Schatzbergbahn. Nobody likes to work in the cold, thus in 2019 the question arose? "How can we best temper the snow groomer workshop according to our requirements?"
Schäffer and his team thought about how they could heat the 2,861 m³ workshop to their requirements. Underfloor heating was under discussion, but found to be "too sluggish in temperature control". Since 2 heaters from the heater manufacturer Puls-air had already been purchased 15 years ago for other halls of the mountain railroads and these were found to "meet the requirements", Schäffer and his team decided to rely on Puls-air for the new hall as well.
For Mr. Schäffer and his team, it is important that the heat in the room can be adapted to different situations. "When repairs need to be made to the snow grooming equipment, it's important that the equipment defrosts quickly to get to all areas. When work is not being done, the temperature should be able to be lowered flexibly." - says Schäffer.
Especially at higher altitudes, reliable and economical heating is important in order to be able to carry out maintenance work in all weather conditions. The snow grooming equipment must always be ready for use to groom the slopes. Of course, consumption is also an issue. An efficiency of 97% and efficient heating through an air circulation effect in the workshop make Puls-air very economical - only 2,300 liters of fuel oil are needed annually!
Workshop employee Michael Fill describes how the handling with Puls-air is. "The heater is switched on in the morning at 7 a.m., but only 1 unit on economy level - the hall is heated slightly with the economy level. The 2nd unit does not run at all in the fall and early winter - when it is extremely cold, the 2nd unit is also turned on. So we always have the optimal temperature in the hall. A super thing for us!"
